Stand on the spot where New Zealand’s founding document – the Treaty of Waitangi (Te Tiriti
o Waitangi) – was signed on 6 February 1840, and find out more about how this document
has forged the unique land that we now call Aotearoa New Zealand.
Enjoy strolling through one of New Zealand’s great beauty spots with its panoramic views of
the Bay of Islands. See the historic Treaty House, the magnificently carved meeting house
and the world’s largest ceremonial war canoe. Explore our brand new, state of the art
Museum of Waitangi, opened on 7 February 2016. Take in the ground floor exhibition Ko
Waitangi Tenei (This is Waitangi) with its multi-media displays and significant taonga
(treasures), and first floor gallery exhibition. Sit back and watch the introductory film in the
Visitor Centre, browse the quality selection in the gift shop and enjoy a delicious lunch at
Whare Waka Café.

which includes an informative Guided Tour and high-energy Cultural Performance, while our
Hangi & Concert will top off a summer’s evening perfectly with a themed intimate
experience not to be missed.

#3 - Hangi and Concert 6pm (includes Day Pass)

Our Hangi & Concert event is an intimate themed evening with a special dining experience. Your evening begins at Whare Waka café with an introduction by your host, followed by the unveiling of the hangi (earth oven). You will then be transported back in time as you take a scenic walk through the bush and experience a traditional wero (challenge) with a Maori warrior. The walk will take you to Te Whare Runanga (the carved meeting house), for a traditional Maori welcome with a high energy cultural performance. After the concert you will head back to the café for a delicious hangi buffet of meats, stuffing, vegetables, breads, salads and steamed pudding for desert.
6 – 8.30pm Tuesday and Thursday and Sunday evenings, December - March. Adult $110. Child 5-15 years $50. Under 5 - No charge.

What a breathtaking location. We felt very humbled by what we did not know about the treaty and its importance to the Maori people. The method of story telling and the legends preformed through dance and music where a great way to share the Maori story and their future place in New Zealand.
