#2 - Black Labyrinth

This popular tour takes approximately three hours with one hour underground and involves a combination of walking and floating on an inner tube through a unique underground river system.

As you prepare for your adventure your professional guide will ensure you are properly equipped and teach you some fun techniques before you climb down into nature's underground network for an enjoyable cave tubing experience of a lifetime.

Operating Times: 9.00am, 10.30am, 12.00pm, 1.30pm and 3.00pm. Allow 3 hours. Maximum 12 people per tour.

Because Customer Safety is important to us, the Black Labyrinth adventure is available only to people aged 12 years or over. Children must be at least 45kg in weight. Your tour includes the use of equipment required for your trip such as tubes, wetsuits, boots and helmets, however each person will need to bring their swimwear, a towel and a sense of adventure! At the end of your caving experience return to Black Water HQ for a complimentary hot shower, hearty soup and legendary Black Water bagel.

#3 - Black Odyssey

Challenge yourself on this extreme dry caving adventure with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co. who have over 25 years of caving expertise.
Experience a range of different caving techniques to complete this journey that will seriously stretch your limits.

Test yourself with extreme traversing and mind-blowing heights. Edge over crossings high above roaring streamways. You'll also spider-walk through ancient rift passages and experience the challenges of technical high rope work and flying foxes.

At every stage you're accompanied and supported by experienced caving guides from The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co. who know and love this totally unique and mind-blowing environment.

Given the challenges on the Black Odyssey you will need to be over 16 years and pass a ‘breathalyser‘ and 'fit test' before starting the tour.
For Black Odyssey, bring an underlayer (i.e. shorts, t-shirts and a pair of socks) and a towel. Overalls, helmet and light, boots and technical equipment will be supplied. Tours include hot showers and soup (just what you'll need after your cave adventure).

Black Abyss is an exhilarating caving experience blending the magic of abseiling, climbing and floating through unique underground river system.

Slip spider-like down into the black, seemingly bottomless depths of Ruakuri Cave and ride a roller coaster of everything caving has to offer. If you seek an adventure tour that plays with your sense and provides and unforgettable thrill - then this Legendary Black Water Rafting Company tour is intended for you!

Designed for people with a moderate level of fitness, the five hour invigorating journey includes a snack and a minimum of two hours exhilarating underground adventure.

Operating Times: Morning tour & afternoon tour.(additional times on demand during summer)

Allow 5 hours. Max. 8 people per tour.

Customer Safety is our main priority! Prior to descent you will be sufficiently trained in abseiling techniques and all equipment supplied include tubes, wetsuits, boots helmets, abseiling devices and safety equipment. To join this tour you must bring your own swimwear, a towel, be over 16 years of age and have an average fitness level. Children must be at least 45kg in weight. Enjoy a complimentary hot shower and a cafe snack at Black Water HQ.

Other magnificent cave formations include the Banquet Chamber, the Pipe Organ and the Catacombs.

The highlight of your tour is an unrivalled boat trip through the spectacular Glowworm Grotto. As your eyes adjust to the dark, the walls and roof sparkle with the lights of glowworm larvae. A guide will take you along safe boardwalks into narrow chambers to see the finest cave formations of all the caves in Waitomo. The high chambers, magnificent limestone formations and pale brown, pink and white shades of the huge stalactites in the Aranui Cave are truly spectacular. As you enter the cave, the first cavern in the Aranui Cave, the Butcher Shop is so named following the discovery by the local Maori pig-hunter Ruruku Aranui. Other key points of interest include the Cathedral Majestic, The Temple of Peace and the Eastern Scene in Aladdins Cave. Aranui Cave is home to one of the largest stalactites which is estimated to be 2.5 tonnes and 6 metres long.

We finally made it back to NZ after 25 years and this was at the top of our list of things to do again, this time with our teenage and adult children. These guys do not disappoint. I loved the experience! It is certainly not something I would do normally and had I not been convinced to try, I certainly would have missed out! The staff were lovely and had such a good attitude. They were accommodating and regarded safety with the highest level.
